Fatoumata Diabaté
Fatoumata Diabaté was born in 1980 in Bamako, Mali. Since 2013, she has been living in Saly, Senegal. She received her photographic education in the ‘promo femme’ [women’s cohort] programme, then in the Cadre de Promotion pour la Formation en Photographie [Centre for Photographic Education] (CFP) in Bamako, 2002-2004.
She also studied at the Centre d’Enseignement Professionnel [Centre for Professional Education] in Vevey, Swizerland, as well as at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art et de Design [National Institute for Art and Design] in Nancy in 2014 and 2015. She has been the recipient of international scholarships and has participated in numerous workshops. Fatoumata Diabaté has worked for the World Press Photo agency, Oxfam, Rolex and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among others.
Since 2004 she has shown her work in a number of collective exhibitions. Exhibited series include the following: The street as studio (ongoing since 2014, exhibited in 2016 at Photography Encounters in Arles, France), Mali in the feminine (2009), Sutigi (The night is ours) (since 2004), The Touareg in gestures and movements (2005), and Man as animal (2001).
She is also a member of the Djabugusso photographers’ collective in Bamako.
